Division 1 Appendix to the Sailing Instructions

For Use on Saturday and Sunday ONLY

Farr 40, J/105, Frers 33

Rendezvous .5 nm S.W. (210o mag) from R2.

 

1)      Communication

a)      Division 1 will monitor VHF Channel 79 for all communication as described in the Main Sailing Instruction #11.  Competitors are urged to monitor RC radio communication at all times as the RC may attempt to give competitors advanced warning of upcoming starting sequences, safety broadcasts and schedules.

b)     Failure to hear any RC transmission shall not be grounds for requesting redress.

 

2)      Courses. 

a)        Please see reverse side of this page.

 

3)      Marks:  All turning marks are to be left to port with the exception of when a gate is used as described in the Course Sheet

a)      Division 1 will use Orange Tetrahedrons for the Windward and Gate Marks. 

b)     The offset will be an Orange Inflatable Mark. 

c)      The Start Line Mark will be an Orange Inflatable Mark .

d)     The Finish Mark will be a Pink Inflatable Mark.

e)      Change marks used in accordance with Main SI #12 (Change of Course After The Start) will have black bands.

 

4)      The Starting and Finishing Lines

a)      The starting line for will be between a staff displaying a yellow flag on the Race Committee boat and the nearby inflatable starting mark on the port side of the Signal Boat (with the Signal Boat facing upwind)

b)     The Finishing Line (for even numbered courses) will be between a yellow flag on the Race Committee Boat and the nearby inflatable mark to the Starboard Side (with RC boat facing upwind).  For races finishing downwind, neither the leeward or gate marks have a required side on the finish leg

c)      The Finishing Line (for odd numbered courses) will be approximately 100 yards to windward of mark 1 and will be between an orange flag on the Race Committee Boat and the nearby inflatable mark to the Port Side (with RC boat facing upwind).  For races finishing upwind, neither the windward mark or offset marks have a required side on the finish leg.

 

5)      The Start

a)      Races will be started in accordance with RRS 26.

b)     For the purposes of RRS 26 the Numeral Pennants listed below will be used as Class Flags.

c)      Starting order for the first race of each day will be as shown below.  The Committee reserves the right to alter the sequence of starts for subsequent races.

d)     A boat starting later than 5 minutes after her starting gun will be scored DNC

 

6)      Time Limit:  The Time Limit will be 120 minutes.  A boat finishing more than 20 minutes after the first boat in its class will be scored Did Not Finish (DNF).  Boats being scored DNF due to an elapsed time limit shall return to the starting area in a most timely manner for the start of subsequent races.  This changes RRS 35.

7)      Protests:  In addition to complying with Main Sailing Instructions (#17), Protests will be reported to the Race Committee boat upon finishing.  Protests will be heard as soon as possible after the day’s racing.  Protests shall be written on forms available from the Race Committee and lodged within one hour from the time the Division’s Race Committee Signal Boat returns to the dock.
