SUMMARY:25th Anniversary Sail for Pride
DESCRIPTION:Background\nIn 2001\, in the wake of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center\, Pentagon\, and in the skies over Pennsylvania\, a few local sailing enthusiasts scrambled to organize a regatta to honor and support those affected. The first Sail For Pride Regatta rallied over 180 boats and raised $110\,000 designated for charities to support the NYFD firefighters\, police and the victims of the attacks and their families. \nThe display of patriotism and generosity on and off the water made a lasting impression in the sailing community. After the inaugural year\, the organizers retired the name Sail for Pride\, but continued the event as Sail For Hope\, reflecting the Rhode Island state motto and focused the mission to support local non-profit endeavors. \nCharities supported over the years include Seamen’s Church Institute\, Newport Harbormaster’s Emergency Equipment Fund\, local public high school sailing teams\, US Olympic Sailing Trials\, The Rhode Island Red Cross hurricane relief funds\, emergency assistance to active duty families and many others.

SUMMARY:Sail Newport Halloween Howl 2026
DESCRIPTION:This is our “Last Blast of the Season” for youth sailors.  Year after year our hardy New England youth sailors prove their mettle by being the last group on the water before boats are put away for the season.  The regatta is open to C420\, Opti White\, Blue and Red sailors. \n2025 Recap \nSaturday\, October 25\nIn years past\, Halloween Howl sailing conditions have varied from early season flurries\, blustery weather at the backend of Nor’easters\, and cloudy\, wet days. This year\, the Halloween Howl’s first day of racing resembled an early spring sailing day. The breeze was challenging\, varying between six and 12 knots and swung from west to north over the four races. However\, the backdrop for racing was a brilliantly sunny sky and sparkling bay. 23 C420s and 31 Optimist boats racing are registered from RI\, MA\, CT\, and NY. \nThe sailors are showing top skills in tight racing in both fleets. The scoreboard for the Optimist Class shows a three-way tie in total points after four races. The race committee and sailors embraced the spirit in costumes both on the water and at the post-race shoreside social and costume contest. Racing continues tomorrow.
