October 12- 14 the model-size radio-controlled Laser fleet will race in Newport for the RC Laser National Championship Regatta. The racing of 24 model boats will take place in front of Sail Newport's Alofsin Piers in Fort Adams State Park. Spectators are invited to watch the championships and parking is free at Fort Adams.
Competitors will come from Rhode Island, Florida, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Bermuda and the Bahamas to participate. The current National Champion, Jim Kaighin (Bahamas) will defend his title in what may be up to 24 races.
Local sailor Chuck Allen, a former URI All American and North Sails One-Design guru, will challenge the fleet.
The fleet of model boats sail under the one-design Low Point Scoring System and are governed by the "rules" as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing, Appendix E., the Sailing Instructions and the RC Laser Class Rules.
