The E.O.S. Big Boat Program – Background

When and Why We Created the Program

The E.O.S. Big Boat Program was created with the intention of offering opportunities to youth sailors interested in racing on bigger boats. Tad Sanchez passed away in 2016 and his fellow sailors and friends were inspired to create a legacy program in his honor.

In October of that year, at the Sail for Hope Regatta, The E.O.S. Program was announced to the community and donations were made to launch this program.

Our Inspiration – Edward “Tad” Oliver Sanchez, III (E.O.S.)

Growing up on the waterfront in New Bedford and Block Island, our dear friend, Tad had a lifelong love for the sea and everything it represented. Tad was a team member of some of the world’s most magnificent yachts ever built such as: Titan, Harrier, Shockwave, Interlodge, Akela, Encore and Laura.

Tad supported Sail Newport’s public access mission over the years and the fund established in his memory will live out his passion for life on and off the water.

The Youth Big Boat Program at Sail Newport is in keeping with Tad’s spirit for recreational and competitive sailing. The E.O.S. Program provides youth in our community the opportunity to experience the sport of sailing that Tad so loved. Also, young sailors will develop the life skills that Tad emulated:
