Message from Brad Read, Executive Director

While we are all living with the adverse health, economic and social realities of the pandemic, I’d like to thank those of you who have renewed memberships, reached out to support us financially through donations, and taken part in our single-handed and household sailing opportunities! This year, more than ever, your non-profit sailing center needs you. Please encourage all your crew to join SN or make a gift to our annual fund.
Our staff has been working overtime to ensure that all of our services are available for all of our sailors! With excellent communication with the Department of Environmental Management (DEM), we have received approval to run:
  • Our summer youth and racing programs have been approved and will start on June 29th!!
  • Youth dinghy training practices started in early June under the State’s Youth Sports Guidance.
  • Household racing in J/22s has been a HUGE hit!
  • Household rentals and lessons on the J/22s have been slowly increasing since the start of Phase II.
  • Single-handed races and regattas were approved by DEM for us to run in June, and the result has been amazing racing.
SN has received these approvals due to the trust that the state has put in us to monitor the areas of the park that are within our lease. These actions include health checks for staff and patrons, parking, face coverings, ensuring compliance with hygiene regiments in bathrooms/on boats /on surfaces /hand washing/PPE, contact tracing, and other protocols. Thank you to all of the sailors in our facility for their understanding of the new guidelines that we must live under. I am super proud of our entire team, which includes staff, Executive Board, Board of Directors and Advisory Council!
Our sailing/racing schedule continues to be robust and is working daily with the state to find ways to get more people safely on the water. Stay tuned for our July and August schedule.
Brad Read, Executive Director

Sail Newport Reopening Plan, May 8, 2020. 11:29 a.m.

Today an announcement was made by the Governor’s Office that will allow the limited opening of selected State Parks in Rhode Island tomorrow, including Fort Adams State Park,  in Phase I of Reopening Rhode Island

Sail Newport has complied with the Governor’s Reopening Business guidelines and has developed an operation plan for the SN Reopening Plan Phase I for the prevention of the spread of COVID 19.   All people who would like to access to Sail Newport to deliver, launch, work on or sail their boat will have to complete a Request for Appointment until further notice, so that we can help manage the numbers of sailors accessing the facility.
