NEWPORT, RI – Gill is Sail Newport’s official gear supplier, and they want to offer Rhode Island youth an opportunity to enter an essay contest about sailing. The essay contest aims to encourage young sailors and allow them to improve their skills. Also, the competition is open to youth who would like to have the chance to experience sailing as a beginner.

“Gill is a great partner to Sail Newport as they believe in community sailing and work to offer support all ages who want to enjoy the sport.  We encourage all youth under 18 in Rhode Island to submit and essay,” says Brad Read, executive director.

Rhode Island residents (under 18) are invited to enter an essay about what they want to accomplish while sailing this summer or why they would like to try sailing. The winner will receive a $500 shopping spree at the Gill Newport store, sailing lessons and a household membership from Sail Newport.

The contest runs through July 12, 2024. One winner will be chosen by Gill. Entrants must have parental consent to apply. Staff, children and family members of Sail Newport and Gill are not eligible to apply. $500 store credit is only valid at 364B Thames St. Newport, RI 02840. Not eligible for cash redemption. Contest only valid for participants under 18 years old at age of applying. Must be a resident of Rhode Island to enter.
