“This is a game changer,” Sail Newport Racing Programs Director Nick Ewenson said at the recent dedication of Sail Newport’s Jason Titunik Racing Education Center on June 24, 2026. Nick shared that coaches will inspire young racing sailors within the classrooms for many years to come.

The building at 60 Fort Adams Drive was fully renovated over the past six months, thanks to the generous support of Dr. Ira Titunik, Jason’s father. BankNewport also provided funding to refurbish, repair, and furnish the building’s deck area.

The center now accommodates learning with updated technology, two changing rooms, a second restroom, ample space for meetings and debriefs, water stations, a kitchenette, and an outdoor deck classroom.

As a young boy, Jason started sailing in Sail Newport’s Youth Program and over th eyears, advanced to compete in the Brenton Cove Racing Program, having fun on and off the water, and making lifelong friends. Jason was a passenger in a car driven at high speed, over 90mph, by Robert Steinmetz of Lyme, CT. The incident occurred in Salisbury, CT on July 6, 2023.

“We are so pleased to memorialize Jason in this meaningful way. We are confident that the Jason Titunik Racing Education Center will inspire sailors of all ages to embrace and excel at sailing just as Jason did,” says Eve Formisano, Sail Newport director of development.
