The Level 2 students of the Marine Exploration Program (MEP) completed the construction of their toolboxes at IYRS School of Technology and Trades last Wednesday, with the guidance of Bill Kenyon, Dean of Students and Lead Instructor, and Lisa Esposito, Dean of Education. Over four days, the students learned the fundamentals of woodworking, which included using fractions, compasses, tape measures, and protractors to mark the lines on their wooden slates. The students worked in pairs to ensure that all pieces were properly aligned. As their wooden slates transformed into boxes, the students sanded down their toolboxes before attaching the screws to complete the project. This internship-like experience gave students a taste of what it would be like as a student at IYRS!
