Sail Newport’s Marine Exploration Program for 5th graders during vacation week, had a great first day!! Students from Newport and Middletown played at the beach and talked about the ocean! Students started off the day with a “How we are connected” icebreaker using yarn and then headed off to the beach to play Beach Bingo!- a Sailors for the Sea Kelp Activity. Students played a round of Mystery Bag to guess where plastic found on the beach originated. Students also got an intro to ocean currents through the Thompson Middle School Mini-Boat Program! Explorers ended their afternoon by creating their personalized Beach Boxes, another SFS activity, before heading back to the beach to fill their boxes with their special finds. Students returned living items before heading home with their legacy Beach Boxes! Excited to have such ocean enthusiasts here at Sail Newport!
